Modders of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP) have successfully added Shadow Lugia and Armored Mewtwo to the Gen 4 Remaster. The Diamond and Pearl Pokémon game originally debuted in 2006, and decades later, in 2021, the Diamond and Pearl Pokémon game is revisited with the 4th-generation Pokémon BDSP remake developed by Studio ILCA. A few months after its release, fans revamped the game with a slew of mods, bringing them closer to 2007's Pokémon Platinum release. However, one mod even added Shadow Lugia and Armored Mewtwo to the Nintendo Switch RPG.

In 2005, The Pokémon Company released Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness on the Nintendo GameCube console. Despite being a non-mainline entry in the series, the Pokémon Colosseum sequel is a hit thanks to the debut of its shadow Lugia. Since then, the Pokémon community has been asking Game Freak to bring back Johto's legendary shadow form. The special Pokémon variants are so popular that Pokémon GO's 2021 Shadow Lugia Team Rocket event is largely seen as not using the iconic Lugia design from Pokémon XD: Winds of Darkness.

Modders eager to see Shadow Lugia return have taken matters into their own hands and added the Johto legend to the Pokémon BDSP via mods. Programmers TheYisusOne shared their incredible work on Twitter and posted a video of Shadow Lugia roaring into battle in the Sinnoh remake. The talented creator was able to import a high-definition model of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness Legendary, which now looks like it's part of a Gen 4 remake as a DLC character. TheYisusOne was also able to add the popular Armored Mewtwo: Mewtwo Strikes Back from Netflix's Pokémon movie.

When Pokémon BDSP was first released in 2021, many fans were surprised to learn that the games were made using the widely adopted Unity engine. Because of this, modders are able to make impressive mods for Sinnoh Remake right after the RPG's release. As Studio ILCA is more focused on a faithful remake of the 2006 Gen 4 Diamond and Pearl Edition, many modders have made extensive changes to bring the BDSP closer to the Pokémon Platinum Edition of the Sinnoh region RPG.

While Pokémon BDSP is no longer receiving any major patches from ILCA, aside from the May Pokémon Home BDSP update, modders continue to breathe new life into the Shenao RPG with ambitious mod creations.
