The irony is that Blizzard's desire to maintain the original D2R Items experience in the remaster is a chief cause of all the issues. One "legacy service" in particular handles critical functions including "game creation/joining, updating/reading/filtering game lists, verifying game server health, and reading characters from the database."

It was upgraded and optimized for Diablo 2: Resurrected but is still rooted in 20-year-old technology and has trouble adapting to "modern player behavior."

"In 2001 there wasn't nearly as much content on the internet on learning how to play Diablo 2 'correctly' (Baal can be played for XP, Pindleskin/Ancient Sewers/etc for magic items, etc.)," PezRadar said. "Today, however, a new player can seek out many amazing content creators who can instruct what to do using a variety of ways.

A lot of them involve a lot of database load that is creating, loading, and destroying games in quick succession. We did anticipate this, with players creating fresh characters on new servers, and working hard to locate their magical objects--we greatly underestimated the extent of what we discovered from our beta testing."

Another major issue is the number of database saves across the world, which happen frequently without any good reason. Blizzard is making some tweaks to ease things up currently and is working on a more permanent solution, but it's quite a while before it's ready because it's "an architecture redesign which requires time to build, test, then implement."

As of now, Blizzard is taking three steps to create Diablo 2: Resurrected more easily accessible. Rate limiting that will place limitations on the speed and often players can create and join games; the development of a login queue modeled after MMOs to ensure servers aren't smashed with a flurry of simultaneous logins; and breaking down crucial functions into smaller units.

But , these strategies could mean alienating a section members of D2R items cheap: Resurrected player base on their own. If players reach the limits on rate, for example they will receive an error message saying there's an issue with communicating with game servers.
